Tufts is always bursting with vibrant clubs and unique communities, each with its own story to tell. One that I am a part of is the Tufts Club Cricket Team. Yes, cricket, one of the most popular sports across the globe is thriving, right here, in Medford!
Before I dive into the details, let me share how much cricket means to me. Growing up in India, cricket wasn’t just a sport—it was a way of life. I’ve spent countless hours improving my skills as a bowler, batsman, and wicketkeeper, and being part of the Tufts Club Cricket Team has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my college experience. As the team’s social chair, I’ve had the privilege of not only playing but also building a lively community that celebrates the game. Let me tell you why this club is worth your attention.
What makes the Tufts Club Cricket Team so special is its diversity. It’s a group of students from all over the world who share a love for the game. From first-time players to those who grew up playing in their backyards, we welcome everyone. We’ve created an atmosphere that’s both competitive and welcoming, making cricket accessible to anyone interested, whether you're a seasoned pro or someone holding a cricket bat for the first time.
The team practices regularly on weekends, turning a quiet campus field into an energetic space filled with drive, laughter, and the occasional "Howzat!" (Cricket's version of "You're out!"). Watching us, you’ll see the perfect blend of strategy, athleticism, and teamwork. We participate in intercollegiate matches, facing off against other universities in the region occasionally.
For international students, especially those from cricket-loving nations like India, the club feels like a piece of home. But it’s more than that. It’s also a chance for local students to dive into something new and global, bridging cultures and learning through play.
If you’ve never played cricket before, don’t worry—this is the place to learn. We’re always looking for new members, whether you want to play, learn, or just cheer from the sidelines. Practices are a great way to stay active, make friends, and experience something truly unique on campus. Not ready to jump into the game? Come watch a match! Trust me, there’s something mesmerizing about watching the ball fly across the field as a batter takes a big swing.
So, whether you’re a die-hard cricket fan or someone who doesn’t know the difference between a wicket and a pitch, I encourage you to check out the Tufts Club Cricket Team. Who knows? You might just fall in love with the game, or, at least, with the incredible community behind it.
See you at the next match!
