Hello Everyone :)
I am Cristina, a junior studying Human Factors Engineering, here at Tufts University. I was born in Arequipa, Peru but lived most of my childhood in suburban Leesburg, Virginia. If I had to describe myself, I would say I am a curious, kind, and lighthearted individual. Having transferred from Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) last year, I have wanted to pursue opportunities to help others get through the application process.
I am currently a Transfer Admissions fellow, aiding the admissions team who focuses on bringing in an eclectic range of students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The transfer admissions process can be different since you may be the only person you know going through the process. I will be sharing blogs about my experience as a transfer student at Tufts to give you insight about the entire process at Tufts.
When I was looking to transfer, I wanted to pursue my education in a place that encouraged me to take a plethora of different courses. I wanted to further establish my Latinx roots and explore what that truly meant to me. I wanted to explore other stories and share mine, knowing that our uniqueness encourages solidarity. This has influenced my course selections. This semester, I am taking SPN23: Spanish for Heritage speakers. I get to read classic poems by Pablo Neruda or “Cien Anos de Soledad”. I am beyond thrilled to contribute to sincere, honest, and meaningful conversations with my classmates.
From these interactions, I have learned a lot about others and myself, including what I want to get out of my time here at Tufts. My journey has at times been a tumultuous one. Far from easy, but very rewarding. I look forward to sharing my reflections on the transfer process and hope that it helps you on your own journey.
Sincerely,
Cristin
