A Day in the Life of Zaya

In college, you have a lot more control over what your day looks like compared to in high school. You will not have the same classes every day and your classes don’t have to start at the same time every day. You can choose the classes you want and if a class offers different sections, you can choose to take it in the morning or the evening! I am a senior now and my schedule has changed every semester depending on the classes I took and my work schedule. I want to share what my Mondays typically look like this fall semester.

On Mondays, I have three classes, a tutoring session, and a club meeting. My day usually starts at 8:30am getting ready for my 9am class. Since I’m a senior, I’m on limited meal swipes so I usually make breakfast and lunch in my room and use my meal swipes for dinner at the dining halls. After my 9am class, I go to my next class. After my second class, I come back to my room to make lunch. I have a block of time before my next class, so I eat my lunch and work on my homework. My third class is a seminar course that is two and a half hours long and is primarily focused on research. Therefore, I usually end up preparing for the class most of the time during the big block of time beforehand. After my seminar class, I get dinner with my friends who are in the same class. My personal favorite is Carm (gluten-free and nut-free), but Dewick is also a popular option! After dinner, I tutor a student in the library. I tutor for an hour and spend some time afterward in the library working on homework or anything else left on my to-do list. At 9pm, I have a club meeting which is luckily close to my dorm. The meeting usually lasts for an hour and I go back to my dorm to finish off any work I have left or get some rest before going to sleep.

Depending on if you’re in sports and the types of extracurriculars you become part of, your schedule may look different than the one I described in this blog. I think creating a schedule that is realistic for you is very important in college because you do not want to experience burnout, especially at the beginning of the semester. My busy days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. To balance my busy days, I don’t have any classes on Fridays and I always try to do something fun on Fridays or Saturdays to take my mind off of academics. Creating a balanced schedule and being involved with clubs that truly interest you can help you keep yourself motivated!
