Tufts Tuition Pact

Affordability. Access. Opportunity.

We know that earning admission to Tufts is only the first step in your college journey.

Our goal is to ensure that every student who earns their spot at Tufts can attend, regardless of financial circumstances. Your focus should be on the world of opportunities at Tufts, not how in the world you can afford it.

How are we meeting this goal?

Tuition-Free Tufts

Tufts is one of a small number of U.S. universities that meets the full demonstrated financial need of every admitted student.

Now we are making that commitment stronger:

The Tufts Tuition Pact

Beginning with the fall of 2026 entering class, U.S. undergraduates will attend Tufts tuition-free if their annual family income is under $150,000, with typical assets.

And this is just the starting point. Many students will receive even more support, further reducing their actual cost of attendance.

Increasing affordability for more families

The Tufts Tuition Pact ensures that students from lower- and middle-income families can afford a Tufts education. This pact sits alongside other efforts we’ve made to make college more affordable to all students regardless of financial circumstance:

  • Students whose family income is less than $60,000 a year receive financial aid packages with no loans at all.
  • Tufts is committed to enrolling more Pell-eligible students, adding to the significant progress we have already made. Over the past two years, we have increased our enrollment percentage from 11 to 16 percent.
  • Many Tufts families with incomes up to $300,000, with typical assets, qualify for some level of financial aid. This support helps reduce the overall cost, though it is unlikely to cover tuition in full.

“What people don't realize about Tufts, and what I certainly didn't realize about Tufts, is how much Tufts cares about making sure that the students that get accepted are able to afford to come.”

-- Emma Desserault, A26

Graduate with more knowledge, less debt

Thanks to the generosity of donors who share our commitment to make a Tufts education accessible to all, the average Tufts student graduates with less than $15,000 in loans (compared with the national average of close to $40,000).

Instead of focusing on debt, you can focus on your studies. And today’s soccer game or upcoming theater performance -- or whatever else you are interested in.
