Hello! I’m Julie, a senior at Tufts double majoring in Economics and Spanish with a minor in Film and Media Studies (I know, it’s a mouthful). Coming to Tufts, I knew I wanted to get involved with many aspects of campus life in order to take advantage of everything this amazing community has to offer. In my last three years I’ve been the Production Director of the Tufts Daily, Head of Music and Programming Manager of TUTV, a choreographer for Tufts Burlesque Troupe, and a Tisch Summer Fellow. My junior year I even studied abroad through the Tufts-in-Madrid program – one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! On top of a bunch of Econ classes, a senior dance film, and job applications, I’ve joined the Admissions Communications Board in my final year to hopefully give others (you!) an insight into life here at Tufts.

Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m a freshman from Chicago, excited to join the Tufts community and thrilled to jump aboard the admissions team with the Student Communications Board. Outside of student communications, I’m studying in the College of Arts and Sciences, and I hope to continue to be very involved in student government, theatre, and film here on campus these next four years. I also have a younger sister, who is going into her sophomore year of high school, and a goldendoodle, Mozart, who without a doubt wishes he could be here at Tufts with so many people to play with. As a freshman, I’m still keeping my options open as far as major, though given that I just graduated high school this past year, I remember the admissions pathway well and look forward to sharing my insight and experiences with you here!

History is my intended — emphasis on the intended —major. South Shore Massachusetts is my “home.” 2020 is my class. Outside of my 4.5 credits for the semester, I also have three jobs, all of which are Tufts related. First, I am on the student communications board, which is why this piece exists. Second, I am an ACE (Academic and Community Engagement) Fellow, who are just some of the myriad of resources for first-year students in their transition to college. Finally, I am a Tisch Scholar: Tufts students who create and work in their own community service projects in the Medford/Somerville area through the Tisch College of Civic Life. My project is starting a mentorship for young men of color at the Medford Boys and Girls Club. When/If I have any remaining time, I spend it as part of the BlackOut Step Team at Tufts, the treasurer of the Cape Verdean Student Association, or attending Black men’s group meetings. My hobbies include sleeping and trying to sleep while listening to the #LushVibes playlist on Spotify. My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip and my favorite pizza is Hawaiian, and I will fight over both of these preferences.

My name is Jheanelle Owens, I am 18 years old, and I was born and raised in Spanish Town, Jamaica. I am the younger of two children and the first in my family to not only go abroad for college, but study engineering. I plan on double majoring in Environmental Engineering and Mathematics, and perhaps a minor in music. Although I am in STEM, I love writing poetry, watching films, and dancing. I also play the violin and have a deep passion for classical music. I hope to explore all my interests further at Tufts while making meaningful connections to the diverse group of people around me.

Hey there! I'm Chloe, a sophomore Environmental Studies and International Relations double major with a minor in music. I love Tufts and the many opportunities it offers for my widespread interests. I participate in Tufts Opera Ensemble, A.M.P.T. (Association of Multiracial People at Tufts), theatre, environmental clubs, and I'm a Tufts Group Fitness Instructor. After Tufts, I hope to make a positive difference in the environmental world in the fight against climate change.

Hello! My name is Ainsley Ball and I’m first-year student from San Francisco. Growing up in California definitely has not prepared me for Medford’s weather, but it’s never hard to find another West-coaster on campus, and I always enjoy chatting with them about how much better guacamole is on the other side of the country. I have yet to declare my major, but I know that I’m fascinated by how humans operate, and I plan to study Sociology and Community Health. I was drawn to Tufts because of the ways that it offers opportunities for all kinds of people, and I have tried to take advantage of that in my time here. So far, I’m enjoying being involved in the umbrella theater organization, the 3Ps, spoken word, and even new things like ballroom dance! If you ever want to find me on campus, Dewick dining hall is always a good place to start; I’ll probably be by the soft-serve machine. Lastly, the Tufts Admissions blogs were a HUGE source of help for me as an applicant, so I’m excited to be providing informative content for any new ‘bos! Happy reading!
