Get to Know SMFA at Tufts
Campus Visits
During a campus visit, an SMFA at Tufts admissions counselor will introduce you to SMFA through stories and images of our community, and a current student will lead a tour of our specialized art facilities on the SMFA Fenway campus. All visitors are required to show proof of vaccination upon arrival and to wear masks indoors. Please review our visit guidelines below before registering for a campus visit:
· Visit Registration: Registration for a campus visit is required. We are unable to accommodate those who arrive on campus and do not have a scheduled appointment.
· Vaccination Requirement: Tufts University is committed to promoting a safe campus environment and therefore requires all members of the university community to be vaccinated. Visitors attending admissions events on campus are required to be vaccinated and will be asked to show proof of vaccination upon arrival at the event.
· Prior to Arrival on Campus: On the day of your visit, each visitor must complete the Tufts University Daily Health Status Survey prior to arrival. During check in, you will be required to show the post-survey confirmation email.
· Arrival on Campus: Visitors to campus should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your program begins. An Admissions staff member will be stationed at the front door to greet and check you in for your visit. Face coverings must be worn indoors at all times.
Virtual Information Sessions
In the Virtual Information Session, you’ll hear all about our curriculum and degree pathways, our amazing network of faculty and staff, professional preparation, and other big-picture aspects of the SMFA at Tufts experience. We’ll cover financial aid and the application process, and you’ll have an opportunity to ask an Admissions Counselor any questions.
Virtual Tour and Student Experience
In a live Virtual Tour & Student Experience session, current students will show you around campus with action shots of our specialized arts facilities, plus some off-campus highlights around Boston. They’ll spend some time chatting and answering questions about getting involved in our community, how they utilize both campuses, and what life is like as an SMFA at Tufts student.
Virtual Portfolio Reviews
Although attending a Portfolio Review is not an admissions requirement, it’s a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with an Admissions Counselor to receive valuable guidance on portfolio preparation and ask the questions that will help you envision how you and your artwork will fit in here. This program provides a space to dive deeper into a conversation about your art practice, what you want to get out of the program, and how your portfolio can help you get here. If this is your first portfolio review, you can learn more about the process here.
Virtual Group Visits
If you are interested in having an admissions staff member host a virtual visit for your art class or organization, please contact SMFAadmissions@tufts.edu. We are happy to offer groups SMFA-focused virtual information sessions or virtual tours or can provide a broadly applicable presentation about choosing the right-fit art school and building a portfolio.
Virtual and In-Person National Portfolio Days
The National Portfolio Day Association (NPDA) will host virtual events throughout the fall, providing an opportunity for you to meet with representatives from colleges and universities and receive valuable feedback and guidance on your portfolio before you submit it as part of your application. All events are free and open to the public, and SMFA Admissions Counselors will be attending all NPD events this year. When you visit SMFA’s booth, you’ll leave with portfolio feedback and an idea of how you and your art practice will fit into our unique program. Check the schedule to see when we’ll be at a National Portfolio Day in a city near you or register to meet us from anywhere in the world at an Online National Portfolio Day.
