The Magic of Engineering for the Customer
Creating a schedule for the first time can be a daunting task, especially for a first year engineering student. There are so many aspects to consider…
So I just recently got assigned my senior project. annnnd I'm so excited about it. Currently I'm working with a pretty big student team (6 Electrical Engineers and 2 Mechanical Engineers) to build the on board system controller for a UAV (like a drone or quadcopter). With the help of a GPS and radar, this drone will be able to map a 2D (hopefully 3D!) surface. Obviously this would be very useful for many different kinds of operations, and my group is pretty happy that we're working on this together.
However, I've begun to realize just how many awesome engineers there are at Tufts, and many of these engineers build, well, awesome things. Because of this, for ny post today I just wanted to highlight some of the coolest (and very publicly accessible) things that Tufts students have created in and outside the engineering department.
Marko
An app that kind of works like snapchat, but is based on location. You can leave people/friends pictures of yourself at a specific spot, and then when they arrive at that spot, they can see what went on there through Marko. One of the guys who designed this studied abroad with me in Hong Kong, and we Marko'd everywhere in the city. Hopefully some future Tufts students will find it. They've even got a great website, and you can check it out HERE.
TuftsText
A site that my sophomore year roommate (and good friend) built. It was meant to take over two previous sites called getchabooks and raptorattack, combining them into a smooth interface. Basically, you select your class schedule for the year, and the site will map out a nice looking schedule AND it will help you find your books. Check it out!
Tufts Racing
So Tufts kind of has this awesome team of students who are building an all-electric racecar for fun. Well, not necessarily for fun, more like for a formula racing competition, but still, pretty fun. They have their own lab at the university and are a pretty cool group of students. In fact, one of my biggest regrets of Tufts so far is not making enough time for this team my freshman year of college. Check out their website HERE and their video down below.
Senior Design Project
Some dread it, others love it, but no matter their feelings, all engineers have to go through a design project throughout the course of their senior year. This year, as I said above, my team and I are using a UAV to create a map of surrounding areas. However, there have been many cool projects in the past, several in various disciplines. IPhone applications, medical devices, infrared technology, robotics, you name it, it's probably been covered in a Tufts senior project. Take a look at the links below to check out the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering projects.
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Those are the few projects that I'll list for now, I'll make a new post very soon though!
