The first day, we landed in the airport and took a two hour drive up north to the Golan Heights area. We all passed out on the bus after such a long flight. When we got to our first destination, it was surprisingly chilly. We circled up for the first time and got to know each other a little bit better. We looked over some gorgeous gorges and wandered around some old ruins.
After a hard two hour hike, we drove over to little shopping strip area and got (you got it) FALAFEL! I had been to Israel once before about six years ago and before that trip I never ate falafel. Now, I absolutely love it. Amsterdam Falafel doesn't cut it for me (sorry Amsterdam Falafel). And the local falafel place at home recently closed, so really, when I was in Israel, I tried to eat falafel as much as I could. BB-8 also decided to try falafel for the first time!
When I was younger, I used to be the pickiest eater. I would only eat chicken tenders, french fries, and corn. In Israel the last time, I only ate falafel balls... No pita, no hummus, no nothing. When in line for falafel, the restaurant didn't have time to take specific orders. They slathered on hummus, tahini, Israeli salad, and I ate it all. This trip was really life changing because now I know that I should really try new foods wherever I go. I couldn't wait to see how else the trip would change me.
