Let me start by telling you, college is awesome. But it only seems fair that I tell prospective students about the times that college lacks in the “awesome” department:
- Leaving home is hard
- Leaving home-cooked meals is even harder
- It might be months before you get to see your best friend in the flesh
- Having to wear flip-flops in the shower makes for an upsetting shower experience
- There is no one to motivate you to do your work, and at times it can be quite hard to push yourself to do it
- Having to pay for printing. Especially when you have a 10-page paper
- The freshman-15
- Having to travel between college and home
- Leaving your residential hall to get to the dining hall
- Living with a roommate: one of the best and the worst things about college
- Going from being one of the smartest in high school to just “average”
- 8:30 classes. Although it came across as easy in high school, running a marathon seems more appealing at times
- There is nowhere to go for midnight snacks as the dining hall closes way too early
- Having to do your own laundry. Really though, who has time for that?
- The panic of trying to find a friend to sit with in the madness that is the dining hall
- Finals, tests, midterms, papers, paper problem sets, online homework. Basically anything that involves working hard
I may have just pointed out why college can suck, but in all honesty it doesn’t. You simply have to read the other Jumbo Talk blog posts or talk to someone who has ever attended college to figure that out. College will be some of the best years of your life, and I hope that you will find coming up with a list of reasons why you dislike college as hard as I do.
