Hebrew is the liturgical language of Judaism and the language of Israel and the global Jewish diaspora. The Hebrew program highlights three thousand years of Jewish and Western civilization through history, culture, and literature by diving into the Hebrew Bible, the Talmud, Medieval poetry, and modern Hebrew. Reading, speaking, and listening to modern Hebrew allows one to understand the Bible in its original language and to explore the richness of the intellectual contribution of Jewish thought to a wide range of fields. The program offers a gateway to the global exchange of ideas communicated throughout the Jewish world and beyond.
A Hebrew language minor appeals not only to students majoring in Judaic Studies but also to those who major in Middle Eastern Studies, international relations, political science, history, religion, film, music, anthropology, archaeology, classics, and world civilizations.
