Some of the most profound educational experiences take place outside of the classroom.
Tufts 1+4 is a unique bridge-year service learning program that allows students to discover new passions, experience different cultures and expand their horizons while serving the needs of a community and working on an issue they care about. Accepted students spend the year between high school and college undertaking full-time community service in areas like education, health, and the environment, before beginning their four years of academic study on the Tufts campus with increased confidence, a renewed sense of purpose, and an expansive perspective on their role in the world.
Locations for 1+4 applicants include 28 cities nation-wide through the City Year program, Santa Catarina - Brazil, Cuenca - Ecuador, or Hyderabad - India. Learn more about these placements by clicking here!

Admitted Tufts students are eligible to apply for Tufts 1+4.
Students can apply through their Tufts online application status page by May 1st! Finalists will be invited to participate in a brief online interview. Neither an application nor acceptance to Tufts 1+4 represents a binding commitment, and we invite all interested students to apply.
Tufts is committed to making the 1+4 experience accessible to all students. Need-based financial support is available to any applicant who needs help defraying the costs of the program, including full support to all students who qualify for Tufts financial aid.
