Engineering at Tufts is beyond perfection for me. First of all, Tufts has an amazing School of Engineering. At Tufts, not only are you focused in Engineering and the sciences but are surrounded with one of the best liberal arts based education. No matter if I'm an engineer major, I can still learn many more fields at Tufts that will open up my mind and my education will be well-rounded. The environment of the School of Engineering and Tufts itself is not one that is cut-throat competitive that you are always trying to beat your classmate but one that is collaborative, where all classmates help each other to succeed in their field. That is one thing that really attracted me to Tufts. Overall, I am looking forward to doing research and working with great professors and learning in a diverse environment with my classmates.

Major: Chemical Engineering
Involvements on campus: Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists
My participation in the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists has strengthened my teamwork, presentation, and communication skills. During an annual event, the Science Extravaganza, we gave engineering workshops to over 100 middle school students. Throughout this leadership experience, I learned the importance of engaging the youth of the community in science and engineering. The greatest lessons Tufts has taught me so far are to seize every available opportunity and to serve my community.

What really made me want to be part of the School of Engineering were the professors and staff members. After a year I’ve met multiple professors that are not even in my major that are a part of different research projects. I have had the ability to talk to some of them one-on-one and this has guided me towards the specific field of Chemical Engineering. It may seem meaningless to meet these people at first, but then you realize how much they have done to get where they are now, and how they care if you succeed. It helped me realize that as an engineering student I have a huge support system of professors and staff members there to help me along the way.
