Ahhhh, midterm season. I’m writing this on a Monday, it’s raining outside, and I’m sitting in a comfortable chair in Brown and Brew, Tufts’ on-campus coffee shop (see what they did there with the pun? Lovely.) thinking back on my weekend.
Where was I this weekend? Do anything fun? Enjoy the beautiful weather?
I have to come clean here: I spent 13 hours in Tisch Library this weekend doing homework, writing midterm papers, and studying for exams. The final push before Spring Break, hello! So, did I have fun this weekend?
Actually, I totally did. I spent 13 hours in the library, yes, but hear me out.
On Friday, I spent the morning and early afternoon working in a classroom in Boston for one of my extracurricular groups, and I spent the afternoon doing schoolwork and laundry. At night, I just hung out with some people in my friend’s suite. No big deal, just hanging. I got to work immediately after breakfast the next morning, as I was the first person to get into Club Tisch (what we affectionately call our place of study) at 10am, and I posted up at my favorite table on the lower floor. Yes, I have a favorite table in the library. Don’t worry about it.
I worked diligently (with many breaks to fill up my water bottle) until 5pm, when I called it a day. Done at five! There’s so much more day and night left! I then had a completely normal night--or, at least, as normal as TDC (Tufts Dance Collective) rehearsals and get-togethers can be. I will write an exhaustive blog post about TDC soon, I promise.
I woke up the next day after having gone to bed way too late, especially with the Daylight Savings Time change. Nevertheless, I set out to work, getting to Tisch by 10:30, a little bit after it opened. I still managed to snag my favorite table, and a couple of friends even joined me. I then worked oh-so-hard until 4:30, when I had to run off to two meetings for different groups on campus.
My point is that, while it IS difficult, it’s still possible to get through the most trying parts of the semester while still having fun and doing some things that you want to do. If this means you have to be working early and for awhile while the sun is shining outside, then that’s just how you have to plan. I had a lot of work this past weekend, there’s no doubt about that, but I still got the good stuff in, so I have no complaints. Plus, I have less work to do this week because of how much I had this weekend.
I did actually did do a couple more hours of work from 9-11pm on Sunday night, but you get my point. Balance is possible, but you do have to make it yourself.
