Count Me In -- Extracurriculars

Reserving rooms is a straightforward process. I often reserve rooms in Halligan. They’re taken by classes or perhaps a colloquium speaker on Thursdays.
Other buildings tell different stories. Sophia Gordon is booked every weekend night through April for dance practice, cultural events, film screenings, and undisclosed private events. A room with two story windows to the world won’t keep anything mysterious for long. The Paige Hall Crane Room is stately and elegant, and hosts dance parties, history classes, and local bands. Barnum 008 is filled with speaker presentations and prospective students.
Other rooms aren’t reservable through the system. The Idea Room, downstairs in Lincoln Filene, has whiteboard-marker-able surfaces on every wall. The Barnum Library is tiny, with a tall medieval door and dim lighting due to pilfered lightbulbs. There’s a small yellow room on the corner of the third floor of East where I study for math exams.
A university, in the end, is a method by which people are put in rooms together to interact. A collection of spaces, out of which comes freshly developed knowledge, new favorite songs, and broader perspectives.
