The spring 2017 semester is off to a snowy start! If you've been following Boston's winter weather, you'll know we were just hit with two massive snow storms. The first, last Thursday, resulted in the first snow day since 2015! The weekend saw a mix of snow and rain, leaving a lovely coating of snow on every building eave and tree branch. Growing up with New England winters, the first big snow storm is always really exciting. I love digging out my snow boots and heading for a walk around campus to see its transformation into a winter wonderland.
This past weekend also marked 100 days until my graduation from Tufts. Any seniors in high school anxiously waiting to hear back from schools and getting excited for their own graduations might be in a similar boat. It's a bit terrifying to think of leaving Tufts, as new beginnings always are. I don't deal well with the build up to transitions, and certainly getting ready to leave behind this amazing campus and my wonderful friends is a big transition. I felt similarly when leaving high school, even though I knew how excited I also was to begin college. These transitions are filled with a lot of self doubt, as I question if I'm truly ready for these big changes.
For me, I'll be heading to graduate school next year. Even though it's a bit different than my friends jumping straight into the workforce, it's still a big step. Graduate students are a lot more like "real adults" who still just work on a project at college. I'll be moving to a new city, and I'll have to adjust myself to the workings of another university. But these changes, although intimidating, are ones that are no different from what I saw in my move to Tufts in 2013, or my move to London in 2015. I've seen how well I adjusted, and how I came to love each new place I was in, so I know this one will be no different.
On campus, we're also entering our first midterm season. The snow day last week was a welcome catch up on the work that always seems to come on quickly, but it's also a sign the semester is really underway. I'm excited for everything my last semester at Tufts has to offer!
