This spring break, I decided to stay on campus since I can’t handle the flood of students that take over South Florida and hike up the prices of my plane tickets home. I’ve been on campus catching up on tv shows and waking up at noon. My favorite time of day has been dinner, since it gives me the chance to go to ALL THE RESTAURANTS while the dining halls are closed.
The other night, a friend and I thought “hmm what if we casually invited the president of the university to dinner, just for funsies?” So we bombarded him with twitter/facebook messages and within 1hour and 27 min, we had made plans to go to a restaurant of our choice in Davis. I immediately started to freak out. What was I going to wear? Where are we going to eat? What if I accidentally say “bomb diggity” while discussing something serious, like his interview about the sequester? After chatting with my friend, we answered one of those questions and decided on the best place to have dinner with the president of our university: a pizza place in a bowling alley*.
So here we were, eating pizza with the president of the university talking about the 10 year strategic plan for the university, op-eds in the Tufts Daily, the different student shows he has performed in (B.E.A.T.S percussion and the Tufts Dance Collective to name a few), Harry Potter, and his research on autism. He even asked us our opinion of some of the projects that will be happening on campus in the next few years. [Insert Jasmine freaking out here]. I’m actually still so excited about this. My excitement is interfering with my ability to come up with a good ending to this post. So…yea. I guess the moral of the story is that even the president is trying to hear from students to make Tufts an even better environment. And, of course, we learned that even fancy administrators like pizza from bowling alleys.
* Seriously though, go to the Flatbread Company in Davis Square if you ever find yourself near campus. So good! President Monaco said that he wants to take his sons there, so I’m pretty sure it has his seal of approval.
