Let's make this fun!

There’s this rumor going around Admissions that applications are due soon…. Is that true? Are you going crazy yet? Have you pulled out most of your hair? Do you actively avoid any human over the age of 14, just in case they ask you The Question?

“So… Where are you applying?”

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. I know how you feel because…

Fun fact: I did applications three times. Three. Times.

The first time was a hell-ish fall of senior year. Checklists, essays, and SAT scores.

The second time, I was frantically searching transfer student admission rates, trying to get out of a school that was not a good fit.

AND THE THIRD TIME??? Well, apparently I just couldn’t get enough of the process. (You all must be rolling your eyes right now!) But truthfully, after trying to transfer out of a small school in Washington state and hitting brick walls at every school I applied to, I took a deep breath (funny how that can be a good idea in many situations…) and took a gap year. And applied again.

Reading this may seem scary. You may be thinking, “Shoot! Am I going to end up like her? Is it going to take me THREE YEARS to make it? Am I making a big mistake? Am I applying to all the wrong schools???”

The answer to all of those questions is NO. Absolutely not. Thinking about your future is not a mistake. Thinking about your dreams and learning how to put yourself onto paper is not a mistake. Even when it comes down to making a decision about a school, there is no way that you could make a mistake.

Everything that you have done throughout this application process has been the right because it teaches you a little bit about yourself. Even if those tidbits don’t become apparent until much later… like, say, three years later…. They have made a difference.

So keep going. Please, please keep going! And when you have pressed “submit” on January 3rd, there will be no shame if you do this. Or this. (Watch the whole video! It will make you feel good to be human!)

Or make paper snowflakes out of an entire J. Crew catalog.
