Elephants are absolutely everywhere. No matter where I go, there is an elephant watching me! Here’s a quick tour of Tufts that you might not get on your average visit: the elephants I came across in the 24 hours from 6 PM on Sunday evening until 6 PM on Monday evening.
I do a lot more walking than you’d expect: if you exclude the shuttle ride to Davis Square, I walked about 3 miles! Part of this included going to a talk through our Engineering Mentors group about careers in the navy, stopping by the campus center for apple cider to promote our upcoming campus concert, and giving a tour for the admissions office. Additionally, I went to two classes, the library twice, the engineering product development center once and the dining hall twice. Also, you'll notice an elephant missing from my album that usually sits on the academic quad. He'll be here soon!
So... why is this important? The real question is how do you want to spend your day. This is the key question for high school juniors or seniors at any point in their college search. As you research schools, PLEASE bug your tour guide about what they do for fun, what their favorite part of their day is, and how they think their school changed them. Preferably, ask many people because no two people will have the same opinion. Yes, that sounds like a lot of work! If what you know about yourself matches up with what you learn, at least you are on the right track.
For me, I enjoy being busy. I prefer to study in the library whenever I do not have something scheduled, but I need to organize places to be in order for me to budget my time. It is very rare that you meet some one who is bored here. While college life does not have nearly the same responsibilities as after-college, Tufts students are motivated by their peers and their commitments to work hard and stay active citizens. Its a unique time where your responsibilities are to learn and take care of yourself. There are an infinite amount of paths to reach these requirements! However, if Tufts is for you then you have to be at least partial to elephants.
