I can't believe we've already hit December. For some people outside of the student loop, December is a time for holiday celebrations and getting in a festive spirit. However, those of us still in school, whether it be high school or college, know December as a time for final exams. If you're in your final year of high school, December is also a time to figure out those last minute schools you want to apply to, and finish up any last edits on your applications. I remember my final year in high school's December as a whirlwind of stress and paper writing. My town even had a huge snow storm the week all my college applications were due, so I had to submit mine on the world's slowest wifi on the cafe nearby.
For once, I find myself with more papers to write than exams to take this fall. As a biology major, so much of our grade is weighted on the final exam; but now that I've finished my major requirements, I get to explore the world of essay writing for finals instead! I can't say it's much easier right now, there's just as much work involved in getting materials together to write a solid paper. At least my papers aren't all on specific microbial interactions or the evolutionary patterns of whales (yes, that was indeed a paper I wrote a few years ago!) Instead I get to write thoughtful essays on whether our brains can truly be accounted for our behavior and how my creative process came about for my final filmmaking project.
Finals aren't fun for anyone, and I wish anyone also applying for schools the best of luck! At the very least, it's getting colder, which is really exciting for someone like me who LOVES winter. It's snowed a couple of times already on campus, and hopefully we'll all soon be stress-free and ready for a relaxing winter break!
