The Goldilocks School
When I was applying to colleges, I felt that size really mattered. I toured some smaller liberal arts schools, but I didn’t like the idea of going to…
Looking back at my transfer process there are a few days that will forever stay in my mind that I’d like to share, as they were significant in my journey to Tufts for my sophomore year.
November 25th, 2014: The Beginning
This first day of Thanksgiving break was the day I told my parents that I wanted to transfer. For a variety of reasons my previous institution just wasn’t the right fit, and I realized that four years was far too long to be unhappy. Fortunately, my parents were incredibly supportive of my decision and were there every step of the way through the process, which involved redoing the common application, writing dozens of essays, and even visiting several schools I hadn’t previously considered.
March 13th, 2015: Application Due Date
Throughout the process Tufts had been at the top of my list to transfer to for many reasons (it’s close to a city, phenomenal academics, athletics, all the advantages of a large research university in a small liberal arts college setting, etc.) but most of all because of the people I met on my visit. I’ll never forget standing outside the campus center looking at a map, having a student (who also happened to have transferred to Tufts) ask if I need directions, then proceed to invite me to lunch in Dewick with some of her friends. That for me was the moment I realized that Tufts is great on paper, but it’s even better in person. Thus began my time of not-so-secretly hoping I’d be accepted. Naturally I was nervous submitting my application, but especially so because it was due on Friday the 13th, I had hoped that the ominous date wasn’t a bad omen for my chances with Tufts.
April 30th, 2015: The Verdict
This was a day like no other. I had just gotten back to my dorm room after a particularly brutal Art History final, and I checked my email to see one from Tufts about my application. I hadn’t been expecting to hear from Tufts until mid-May so I immediately went to my application portal out of fear that something had gone wrong. I checked the online portal to find that my admissions decision was ready and I swear my heart was racing like I had just run a marathon. As soon as I read the word congratulations though my fears turned to joy. All of the difficulties of the past year faded away to excitement for the coming year and the official start to my time at Tufts, and as you’ll gather in future posts, Tufts has been everything I had hoped it would be and more.
Stay tuned for my next post on my orientation and first year at Tufts!
