There's no denying that with the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens there has been a revival in the fandom. More people seem to now be interested in the story, which is great! I've been a Star Wars fan since I watched the first episode (the first episode being Episode IV of course). Episodes V and VI soon followed my viewing of Episode IV and I was hooked. My oldest brother, who first showed me Episode IV warned me that Episodes I-III were not as good and to not get my hopes up for them. So, I didn't. But, I felt the need to watch them anyway, since they were part of the Star Wars universe. And! They were meh. So, when I heard Disney was going to release an Episode VII, I didn't get my hopes up for it.
Of course, the episode had to come out during finals week, so I wasn't going to see it until I got home. Christmas day, like the good Jew I am, I went to see Episode VII with my two older brothers. Although I wasn't super excited about it, I did wear my R2D2 sneakers because why not?
My overall opinion on the movie? The plot was way too similar to Episode IV. The characters were not very well developed. The design and the graphics were beautiful. I'm very glad Chewie is going to stick around. And BB-8 is my favorite character. In honor of my new favorite little droid, I took the two days I had between New Years Eve and leaving to head back to Boston to make myself a BB-8. Yes, I made BB-8. He doesn't do much because he's crocheted, but he's very cute to look at!
His body and head are white yarn crocheted around a styrofoam ball/ semi-sphere. The decorations took be about 3 hours to do and it's simply crocheted orange rings and gray string glued onto his body. This little droid now sits in my dorm room.
But, before he made the transition from my house to my dorm, he traveled all the way to ISRAEL with me! That's right! BB-8 took his first trip. My next few blog posts will be about BB-8 and his adventures in Israel, so make sure to check back during the next few weeks!
