The weather in New England is getting colder and colder, and mid-terms are stressing people out. What can I do? I started asking myself.
Fortunately, my high school friends were visiting me last weekend, so I decided to take them to Rockport, a small coastal town about 1 hour away from Boston. It’s been a long time without them around me. Back in China, because of the “Core Curriculum” education, we all had the same schedule and spent basically every day together. We have a very deep bond. Now here at Tufts, I made friends, but the bond is just not that deep yet. So I was really happy when they said they would like to visit me.
Ok, back to the star of the post, Rockport. To get there, it’s pretty easy. There is a commuter rail starting from Boston North Station and going directly to Rockport. So on Friday Morning (It’s super cool to not have class on Friday), we went on the train. The commuter rail has those seats where a group of people can seat face to face with each other with a table in between. We took that seat and played poker games all the way.
As the weather is getting colder, it might not be a perfect time to go to the beach. But it’s definitely a perfect time to go to Rockport, because there is no beach! So you don’t have to worry about getting a bad cold after swimming. What we did was just chat about our lives at different universities on the rocks and enjoyed the last days of good sunshine in New England. Along the streets of Rockport, there are different stores selling things from home use plates to post cards. We all bought a post card and sent them to our families. After that, we also went kayaking. The water there seldom has big waves. So instead of thrilling moments, we can just float in the middle of the sea. Or maybe, some times turn kayak into bumper cars.
Well, it’s a coastal town, sea food is the rock star. Every meal we had there was about sea food! Lobster mac and cheese is my favorite, my friends loved the fried shrimp and scallops.
I have to say that this place is better suited for dating. I went there with all those boys. But the atmosphere there is suitable for having a romantic date! Keep that in mind.
