Jumbo Life: Freshman Edition

I am a ballet dancer, aspiring broadcast journalist, and self-proclaimed foodie with an affinity for all things media and a love for the arts. I hope to major in International Literature and Visual Studies, a major with a name that is way too long and always changing, but nevertheless, encompasses three of my favorite academic subjects: the arts, literature, and film. I also love psychology and hope to minor in Communications and Media Studies. On campus, I write articles for the Tufts Daily, report for a newly formed TUTV new show, dance with Tufts Dance Collective, greet and lunch host for Tufts Admissions, and volunteer with The Giving Camp, an organization that works with special needs individuals.

Why I Came to Tufts & Why YOU Should Too

My fellow blogger Liz did a great job of giving her advice to last minute decision- makers (seen here). I thought I’d also share some of my thoughts for those who are still deciding where to go. Before I started writing this post, I re-read my “why Tufts” essay. I was happily surprised to see that what I had written completely matches up to what I would say now. In fact, the first sentence of my admissions essay sums it up best.

“To me, Tufts is about the people.”

Plain and simple, the people are 100 percent why I would tell anyone to come to Tufts, and why I love it so much. Tufts students are unique. They are quirky, passionate, exciting, diverse, interesting, and come from all over the world. Everyone is smart and loves to learn, but isn’t overly competitive. No one tries to be better than someone else, but instead, strives to be the best they can be. People are passionate about what they believe in and what they do, and it seems like everyone on campus has something they immensely...

The BIG Decision: Some Questions to Ponder

My fellow bloggers have done an amazing job of sharing some of their favorite things about Tufts (here, here, and here). Instead of reiterating these things (because I wholeheartedly agree with each one), I thought I’d take a different route in helping sort through the sometimes daunting college selection process. When I went through the college selection process, I found myself completely overwhelmed. Now, after spending almost an entire year at Tufts, I have a much better understanding of how I should have sorted through all the information about each of the colleges I was accepted to.

Below, you’ll find a list of questions that I think sum up the college experience. Take this list and answer the questions for each college you are considering. Numbers 1-4 on the list are certainly extremely important, but don’t forget to pay extra attention to numbers 5 and 6. In my mind, those are the things that will make or break your college experience. They definitely have made it for me.

What's On Your Plate?

Any prospective Jumbo foodies out there? As you can probably tell from my posts, I have quite the passion for food. When I’m not spending my time blogging for this website, I work for Tufts Dining as their Social Media and Marketing intern. One of my biggest projects all semester has been helping to develop a food blog for them. It has finally launched after many months of hard work, and I wanted to share it with all of you! The blog is filled with delicious recipes, interesting chef profiles, mouth- watering photos of dining favorites, and much more. You can learn all about our AWESOME dining halls and see the food you have to look forward to here. The blog is a behind-the-scenes look at all things Tufts Dining- related, and is a sneak peek at just one aspect of your Tufts experience. Although dining halls may not seem like a big part of your college experience, you’ll find that you end up spending a lot of time in Dewick or Carm with your friends. You probably spend more hours in the...

Tufts Food Moment # 3: Mac-and-Cheese Pizza

Every since I came to Tufts, I have felt like I am a part of two separate worlds. My familiar, South Floridian home world and my new, exciting Tufts world. When you go to college, it feels like you have entered a completely new chapter in your life, where you can break away from your high school past and start fresh. Whether you stay true to your home persona, or completely change, it is an opportunity to get away from your past and have a new beginning. It is such an invigorating feeling to enter a new world, make new friends, live on your own, and begin a whole new chapter in your life. Coming from a kindergarten through 12th grade school, I was more than ready for a change. After over 12 years of being in the same environment with the same people, I couldn’t wait to come to Boston and break out of my bubble. I had become stuck in my own little world, often detached from reality, and Tufts was the perfect antidote.

However, this past weekend, my two worlds collided. My speech and...

Reasons to Love Tufts: Sundae Sundays (& Thursdays)

Whenever I have a rough week or a long day, there is nothing more comforting than a good meal. Food just has this way of healing the soul, whether it’s with a pint of ice cream after a breakup or an indulgent bowl of mac and cheese after a stressful exam, there is nothing like comfort food. The masterminds behind the dining halls at Tufts must be very familiar with this magical healing power of food because dinners in Dewick or Carmichael on Sunday nights end with a particularly sweet treat. After a long day of homework and reading, there is nothing better than going to dinner in the dining halls and finding a buffet bar full of sundae toppings and a freezer stocked with an array of ice cream flavors. Sundae Sundays, as they are affectionately called, are definitely a reason to love Tufts. I can’t tell you how many times a bowl of vanilla ice cream topped with Oreos, butterscotch sauce, chocolate chips, and sprinkles has made my day. The best part of Sundae Sundays? They aren’t just on...
