Once upon a time, I was a D3 student-athlete. Because of my wonderful experience, I often support our Tufts athletes by attending games. Over the past two weekends I’ve watched 165 minutes (4 games + 1 overtime) of Tufts Women’s Basketball. On behalf of the Admissions Office, I want to wish our Jumbos well on their journey to the Final Four in Wisconsin.
Since the Athletics Department has done the full write-ups, I’ll do some fun awards for the four games that I saw:
“Brush off your Shoulder” Award: (senior tri-captain) Liz Moynihan’s last second line-drive buzzer beater to defeat UNE in overtime.
Gladiator Award: Kelsey Morehead (a Bay Area native- yeah NorCal) is the point guard who played every second of all four games. Some may not have noticed that, but as a “gamer” myself, I want to send her a huge shout out.
Most Spirited Award: Tufts Men’s and Women’s Track teams who lead the cheering section
President of the Block Party: Averaging 4.5 blocks a game in the post season, Hayley Kanner reminds me of Dikembe Mutumbo with the finger-wag if you ever come in the paint
Best overall moment: Coach Carla Berube cutting down the net after the elite 8 victory (sorry for the quality, the video was from my iPhone)
If anyone wants to watch this weekend, here is the link to the NCAA website and click the game for the video. Good luck in Wisconsin, ladies!
