Early Admission to Tufts' Professional Schools

Early Admission to the Tufts School of Medicine

For a very select group of sophomores, the Tufts Medical School offers an opportunity for early acceptance into medical school. To be eligible, students must complete two semesters of general chemistry, two of introductory biology, and one of organic chemistry by summer of sophomore year. Qualified applicants need to perform extremely well in all their academic work, and should demonstrate a mature, informed motivation for a medical career. If accepted, a student will still complete the remaining two undergraduate years before beginning the four-year medical school curriculum. At the end of the junior year, those students who had been accepted make their final commitment to attend Tufts School of Medicine. In turn, accepted students are expected to maintain the same level of performance in their course work during their junior and senior years. While the MCAT exam is not required for early admission, students will be expected to take the exam before entering the medical school.

Each year, about 25-30 students apply for Early Admission to the Tufts School of Medicine, and about 10-15 are admitted. For more details on applying early to the Tufts School of Medicine, please visit the program website .

Early Admission to the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

For a very select group of sophomores with commitment to veterinary medicine and experience working with animals, the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine provides an opportunity for early acceptance into veterinary school. To be eligible, students must complete two semesters of general chemistry and two of introductory biology by the end of sophomore year. Accepted students will complete the remaining two undergraduate years before beginning the four-year veterinary school curriculum. The veterinary school expects accepted students to maintain the same level of performance in their course work during their junior and senior years. The GRE test is not required for matriculation.

Each year, about 3-4 students apply for Early Admission to the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, and about 1-2 are admitted. For more details, please visit the program website .

Early Admission/7-Year Program with the Tufts School of Dental Medicine

Upon completing their first year of study, Tufts undergraduates are eligible to apply for a program that will allow them to complete their Bachelors degree in the College of Liberal Arts and their D.M.D. degree in the School of Dental Medicine in seven years rather than the traditional eight. Students may apply to the program during the spring semester of their first year at Tufts. Successful candidates for the program will likely have maintained a 3.2 GPA overall, a 3.2 GPA in dental school prerequisite courses, and will receive at least a 16 academic average score and a 16 perceptual ability score on the administration of the dental aptitude test. Applicants to the program will have completed either the introductory chemistry or the introductory biology sequence by the end of their first year.

Each year, about 3-4 students apply to the 7-Year Program with the Tufts School of Dental Medicine, and about 1-2 are admitted. For more information, please see the Tufts School of Dental Medicine 7-Year Program website.

Early Admission/Dual Degree Program in Public Health

The dual degree program enables the undergraduates enrolled in the Community Health Program to complete some of their Masters of Public Health (MPH) requirements during their junior and senior years of college. Instead of taking four years to complete the bachelors degree and one and a half to two years to complete the MPH, students would be able to complete both degrees in five years, provided they plan well and seek faculty guidance. For some students, the dual degree may take longer to complete.

For students who are committed to a career in Public Health, this program will allow them to take maximum advantage of their time at Tufts University. Most importantly, the dual degree program offers a way for students to be educated broadly in the liberal arts and sciences as they prepare to work on a professional degree. They will save time and money while being part of a student-centered degree program.

Each year, about 8-10 students apply to the Early Admission/Dual Degree program in Public Health, and 5 are admitted. For more information on the dual degree program including requirements and a sample curriculum, please visit the BA/MPH website.
