The Experimental College at Tufts, the oldest organization of its kind in the country, fosters a student-centered learning environment based on collaborative innovation. Each semester it offers about 30 undergraduate elective courses ranging from "Going Green: A Practical Guide to Environmentalism" to “Introduction to Game Development" and "The AIDS Epidemic in Theatre and Film.” All of these count toward graduation and a significant number fulfill requirements. While some of the courses are taught by Tufts professors, the majority of the instructors come from outside the university. Professionals in the worlds of technology, public service, the arts, heath care, business, media, religion, law, education, and government often teach in the ExCollege. Consequently, they offer perspectives based on their experience and expertise that reflect an active participation in emerging issues of global importance. For example, there’s a course offered this Spring on “The Global Financial Crisis – A Seminar in Investigative Economics.” How’s that for current? In addition, upperclass students have the opportunity to teach their own courses in the Experimental College.
